What exactly are Unique Skins?

They're adhesive-backed vinyl pieces pre-cut to fit your electronic device. While the term skin can also refer to silicone or hard plastic products on the market for the iPod, Zune and several mobile phones.

What type of material do you use?

First you must understand there are two different types of vinyl material: "cast" or "calendared."

Calendared vinyl is fairly inexpensive and is meant mostly for short-term applications on signs. It has a moderately glossy finish, but can have some problems with fading and color inconsistencies and is prone to shrinking over time, especially when exposed to heat. It's also less pliable and doesn't conform as well to compound curves.
Cast vinyl costs roughly 2.5 times as much as calendared vinyl, but is notably higher quality. Cast vinyls have a much higher gloss point, doesn't discolor and won't shrink over time. They conform easily to just about any curve and last 7-9 years.

What makes your skins different from the competition?

After testing many different materials Unique Skins has chosen to use Cast vinyl manufactured by the leader in the industry 3M. The 3M™ Controltac™ with Comply assures the customer of a higher gloss and non-visible air release channels for bubble free application. Other features of this high end material include pressure activation, slideability and repositionability for fast and easy applications. Here at Unique Skins we use a cast vinyl and also a cast laminate to protect the quality of the image.
